The speckled red and green leaves are even prettier in person, and the romaine hearts have a lovely tender crunch. It handled the cool spring nights without bolting, which made all the difference for our salads.
Planted these in early spring when the soil was still chilly, and they sprouted fast as the description promised. The speckled trout-like pattern is even prettier in person, and the leaves stay tender for salads straight from the garden.
The speckled red and green leaves really do look like a trout’s back, which makes the garden bed feel a bit more alive than plain lettuce. They stayed tender even through a few cooler nights, and I’ve been snipping leaves for salads for weeks now.
